Legal / Documentation Officer

Position Purpose

As a Legal / Documentation Officer – Loan & Investment Banking at BT – Capital, you will be responsible for ensuring all loan and investment transactions are legally compliant, properly documented, and risk-protected.

This role focuses on drafting, reviewing, and verifying legal documents, collateral agreements, and loan contracts to safeguard the institution’s interests while ensuring transparency and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Job Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and vet loan agreements, investment contracts, and related legal documents.
• Ensure proper documentation of secured and unsecured loan facilities.
• Verify collateral documents, title deeds, guarantees, and other security instruments.
• Conduct due diligence on borrowers and guarantors.
• Ensure compliance with internal policies, legal regulations, and financial industry standards.
• Liaise with external legal counsel, regulatory bodies, and relevant authorities when necessary.
• Maintain organized and secure records of all legal and loan documentation.
• Support the Credit and Relationship Management teams during loan structuring and approval stages.
• Identify legal risks and provide advisory on mitigation strategies.
• Monitor documentation completeness before loan disbursement.

Educational Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) or related legal field.
• Professional legal qualification or bar membership will be an added advantage.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum of 1–3 years’ experience in legal practice, preferably within banking, financial institutions, or corporate law.
• Experience in loan documentation, collateral verification, or contract drafting is highly preferred.
